Facility Modernization: A Key to Unlocking New Business

By: Wendy Catone

Growing your practice through any kind of expansion —relocating to a new location, remodeling an existing space, or building a new facility — is a big decision ... and investment. But when well thought and carefully planned, it may be one of your best investments in your future potential.

When do you know the time is right for such a big change and logistical challenge? Staying current with technology and design trends can be one way to remain relevant for your patients, customers, and team. A modernized facility is a potential draw for additional business you might not have today, so the benefits may outweigh the costs. Even so, it's always wise to start with research first, rather than just a gut feeling. (Though, a gut feeling is an important precursor to any formal research!)

A few ways modernization can help

  • Increased space, increased opportunity: Perhaps, your practice has limited treatment space, meaning you can only schedule so many appointments at a time and you may not be spending enough time with each patient. Expansion and the addition of treatment space could open up increasing patient care opportunities.
  • More new patients, more opportunity: If your new-patient wait list is long, perhaps now is the perfect time to investigate growth of space. Remember, you may also need to add to your team to enable you to serve more patients more frequently.
  • New treatment opportunities, fewer referrals out: Maybe you don't have the ability today to care for certain conditions/needs, but if you brought in new treatment equipment, you could possibly take care of more patient needs without having to refer them out.

Granted, there is expense related to any expansion. However, you may be able to unlock some exciting growth opportunities, which are worth pursuing and which could cast positive ripples across your entire practice!
